Book your unique holiday experience in Lightkeeper’s Cottage at the most Southerly Point in Scotland, the Mull of Galloway in Dumfries and Galloway.

Our self-catering holiday accommodation is spacious, fully equipped and tastefully decorated. Included in your holiday or short break are bed linen and towels together with a welcome tray on your arrival.

Lightkeeper’s Cottage was built in 1894 when the Fog Horn was added at the Mull of Galloway. D A Stevenson, grandson of Robert Stevenson, designed the new buildings which included the keepers’ cottage, fuel store, engine room and workshop.

The cottage is now available for holidays and short breaks all year round and the other buildings are now home to the Exhibition of Lighthouse History.

There are two other former keepers cottages at the Mull of Galloway, both sleep up to 6 guests. Kittiwake House is our former Principal Lighthouse Keepers Cottage and Puffin House is a former Assistant Lighthouse Keepers Cottage.

Lightkeeper's Cottage, Mull of Galloway LighthouseThe Mull of Galloway Lightkeeper’s Cottage has two bedrooms, a double and a twin bedroom with fresh linen and towels provided, wardrobes, bedside tables and lamps.

A fully equipped holiday home kitchen incorporates everything you need for a home-from-home experience including an electric oven and hob, fridge, freezer, washer, dishwasher and microwave. Once your meal is prepared you can sit in the spacious dining room and enjoy the stunning sea views whilst enjoying a leisurely holiday breakfast or brunch.

Lighthouse Holiday CottageOur cosy sitting room has an electric log burner, relaxing sofa and two armchairs and a spectacular view of the sea. There is a 32 inch flatscreen TV with integrated DVD player to entertain you. Free WIFI is provided and we have a telephone with honesty box, mobile phone signals are poor at the Mull of Galloway.

Lightkeeper’s Cottage has a newly fitted bathroom with bath and shower over, fitted furniture and an electric towel rail and all towels are provided. This cosy holiday cottage is centrally heated, cosy and warm. For the younger guests we can supply a cot and high chair.

Pets are very welcome (2 per cottage per stay and a charge of £15 per pet applies). Lightkeeper’s Cottage can accommodate up to 4 guests in the two bedrooms. To book or enquire send an email today to

Outside your self-catering holiday home

Mull of Galloway, Lightkeeper's Cottage with a spectacular sea viewFrom the terrace at the rear of Lightkeeper’s Cottage there are amazing views across the Irish Sea towards the Isle of Man, the Cumbrian Hills and the Mountains of Mourne in Ireland. You can take in the sea view whilst relaxing here and watch the birds on the cliffs below. Look out for dolphins, porpoises or whales and for local fishing boats and pleasure craft sailing by.

Please be aware that the Foghorn is usually sounded every Sunday at 1.00pm with the exception of the seabird nesting season (generally mid May to mid July) and the terrace at the rear of the Lighthouse Keeper’s Cottage is used by members of the public for viewing.  This will only be for a maximum of 30 minutes.  There may also be times when the Foghorn is sounded for celebrations such as weddings and group bookings. We will ensure that prior warnings will be given to guests.

To the front of Lightkeeper’s Cottage there is a grassed area within the Lighthouse walls where there are picnic tables and benches to sit and enjoy the tranquillity of this peaceful location at Scotland’s most Southerly Point. Parking is provided in front of Lightkeeper’s Cottage, within the Lighthouse walls. Relax in our Lighthouse Keepers’ walled garden and summerhouse.

You are sure to enjoy a relaxing holiday at the Mull of Galloway Lighthouse Cottages as well as the unique experience of a working Lighthouse right on the doorstep. This holiday accommodation is ideal for lighthouse lovers, bird watchers, walkers, artists and photographers alike. We are located within an RSPB reserve with 30 acres of heathland with an RSPB Visitor Centre (open Easter to end of October) displaying live camera footage of the seabirds from cliff mounted cameras. The site is also a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).
