Lightkeeper’s Cottage was built in 1894 when the Fog Horn was added at the Mull of Galloway. D A Stevenson, grandson of Robert Stevenson, designed the new buildings which included the keepers’ cottage, fuel store, engine room and workshop. The cottage is now available for holidays and short breaks all year round and the other buildings are now home to the Exhibition of Lighthouse History.
The Mull of Galloway Lightkeeper’s Cottage has two bedrooms, a double and a twin bedroom with fresh linen and towels provided, wardrobes, bedside tables and lamps.
A fully equipped holiday home kitchen incorporates everything you need for a home-from-home experience including an electric oven and hob, fridge, freezer, washer, dishwasher and microwave. Once your meal is prepared you can sit in the spacious dining room and enjoy the stunning sea views whilst enjoying a leisurely holiday breakfast or brunch.
Our cosy sitting room has an electric log burner, relaxing sofa and two armchairs and a spectacular view of the sea. There is a 32 inch flatscreen TV with integrated DVD player to entertain you. Free WIFI is provided and a fair use policy is in place and we have a telephone with honesty box, mobile phone signals are poor at the Mull of Galloway.
Lightkeeper’s Cottage has a newly fitted bathroom with bath and shower over, fitted furniture and an electric towel rail and all towels are provided. This cosy holiday cottage is centrally heated, cosy and warm. For the younger guests we can supply a cot and high chair.

Outside your self-catering holiday home
To the rear of Lightkeeper’s Cottage there are amazing views across the Irish Sea towards the Isle of Man, the Cumbrian Hills and the Mountains of Mourne in Ireland. You can take in the sea view whilst relaxing at your outside seating area and watch the nesting birds on the cliffs below. Look out for dolphins, porpoises or whales and for local fishing boats and pleasure craft sailing by. To the front of Lightkeeper’s Cottage there is a grassed area within the Lighthouse walls where there are picnic tables and benches to sit and enjoy the tranquillity of this peaceful location at Scotland’s most Southerly Point. Parking is provided in front of Lightkeeper’s Cottage, within the Lighthouse walls.
